Product Description
A New Benchmark in Cartridge Design - Only available from an "Ortofon Exclusive" dealer such as Krispy Audio.
Designed and manufactured by Ortofon, the MC Vertex embodies a fully integrated approach to moving coil cartridge development. Rather than treating individual components as separate elements, every aspect of the cartridge has been engineered as part of a complete and interconnected system.
From the stylus profile and cantilever assembly to the magnetic circuit and mechanical structure, each component is carefully matched and optimised to work in harmony. The result is exceptional consistency, predictable performance, and a level of precision demanded by the most discerning analogue enthusiasts.
By maintaining strict control over every interface within the design, the MC Vertex delivers highly efficient energy transfer from record groove to generator system, enabling outstanding tracking accuracy, low distortion, and balanced performance across the entire audible frequency spectrum.
The outcome is a cartridge capable of revealing subtle musical detail, preserving dynamic expression, and presenting recordings with remarkable clarity and realism. Soundstage information remains stable and precisely focused, even during the most complex musical passages.
Introducing the Vertex Diamond
At the heart of the MC Vertex is an entirely new stylus concept developed exclusively by Ortofon.
Known as the Vertex Diamond, this advanced design incorporates a sophisticated line-contact geometry created to maximise groove contact while maintaining exceptional tracking precision. Developed through extensive engineering and manufacturing refinement, the Vertex Diamond establishes a new reference point within Ortofon's diamond technology portfolio.
Combining advanced geometry, diamond-on-diamond construction, and precision manufacturing techniques, the Vertex Diamond is designed to deliver outstanding resolution, enhanced transparency, and long-term performance consistency.
Advanced Groove Contact Technology
The Vertex Diamond has been engineered with a particular focus on its interaction with the record groove at a microscopic scale, where precision contact and mechanical stability play a critical role in sound reproduction. The stylus features a highly refined scanning radius of 4 μm paired with an extended contact radius of 110 μm. While the scanning radius enables exceptionally accurate tracing of fine groove information, the unusually large contact radius significantly increases the contact area along the groove walls.
This carefully balanced combination allows the stylus to retrieve intricate musical information with remarkable accuracy while distributing tracking forces more evenly across the record surface. The result is improved tracking performance, reduced groove wear, and enhanced retrieval of low-level detail.
Solid Diamond Cantilever - Maximum Rigidity, Minimum Mass
The Vertex Diamond is mounted on a solid diamond cantilever, creating an extremely lightweight yet highly rigid structure optimised for efficient energy transmission.
The connection between stylus and cantilever is manufactured using advanced laser-cutting technology and exceptionally tight production tolerances. A precision-engineered micro-bore within the cantilever allows the diamond to be mounted with extraordinary accuracy, ensuring repeatable alignment and a secure mechanical fit.
This rigid interface maximises energy transfer while minimising unwanted losses, helping preserve the integrity of the musical signal from groove to generator.
To further enhance performance, the cantilever undergoes a specialised laser-polishing process that creates a uniform surface finish, reducing microscopic irregularities that could otherwise contribute to unwanted mechanical artefacts.
Titanium Construction with SLM Technology - A Structure Optimised for Sound
The MC Vertex features a titanium housing and internal core structure produced using Ortofon's proven Selective Laser Melting (SLM) manufacturing process.
This advanced production method enables a level of structural precision that traditional machining techniques cannot achieve. Material density, wall thickness, and internal geometry can be carefully controlled throughout the entire structure, allowing highly complex internal architectures to be created directly within the titanium body.
An integrated internal cavity has been specifically engineered to improve damping characteristics and reduce unwanted resonance throughout the cartridge structure.
The titanium body is finished with a Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating, providing enhanced durability and a refined black appearance. Precision laser-engraved markings complete the design and reflect the meticulous attention to detail behind every stage of production.
The result is an exceptionally stable and mechanically inert platform that suppresses unwanted vibration, allowing music to be reproduced with greater purity, focus, and accuracy.
Enhanced Wide Range Damping System - Resonance Control Across the Entire Frequency Range
The MC Vertex incorporates Ortofon's patented Wide Range Damping (WRD) technology, engineered to manage mechanical resonance across the full audible spectrum.
At the centre of the system is a platinum disc positioned between two specially formulated rubber compounds with distinctly different mechanical characteristics. Acting as a rigid mechanical interface, the platinum element enables both damping materials to function independently or interactively depending on frequency and operating conditions. This sophisticated dual-action design provides highly effective resonance management while preserving dynamic speed, transient response, and musical energy.
The result is cleaner reproduction, greater tonal accuracy, and improved stability throughout the frequency range.
Proprietary In-House Rubber Development
A critical element of the MC Vertex's performance lies in Ortofon's ability to develop and manufacture its own damping compounds in-house.
Complete control over material formulation and production ensures exceptional consistency while allowing engineers to fine-tune damping characteristics with extraordinary precision. Even the smallest adjustments in compound composition can significantly influence how energy is absorbed, controlled, and dissipated within the cartridge system. This attention to detail contributes to a more natural tonal balance, improved tracking behaviour, and enhanced musical realism.
Crafted for Ultimate Musical Transparency
Combining the newly developed Vertex Diamond, solid diamond cantilever, titanium SLM construction, advanced damping technology, and proprietary material engineering, the MC Vertex represents a significant advancement in moving coil cartridge design. Every component has been developed with a single goal: to reproduce music with exceptional precision, transparency, and emotional engagement, bringing listeners closer to the original performance than ever before.
