Product Description
Ortofon's MC 90X – The evolution of a legendary moving coil cartridge. Only available from an "Ortofon Exclusive" dealer such as Krispy Audio.
The MC 90X represents the next generation of Ortofon's celebrated moving coil cartridge design, combining decades of analogue expertise with the latest advancements in materials engineering, magnet technology, and precision manufacturing.
Inspired by the award-winning MC A90, the MC 90X incorporates a stainless-steel body produced using advanced Selective Laser Melting (SLM) technology. Combined with Ortofon's renowned Field Stabilising Element (FSE), Wide Range Damping (WRD) system, Replicant 100 diamond stylus, and newly developed proprietary rubber compounds, the result is a cartridge engineered to deliver extraordinary musical detail, dynamics, and realism.
Replicant 100 Diamond Stylus - Exceptional Tracking and Precision
At the heart of the MC 90X is the acclaimed Replicant 100 diamond stylus, widely regarded as one of the finest stylus profiles available for analogue playback.
Designed to closely replicate the shape of the original record-cutting stylus, the Replicant 100 features an ultra-thin, lightweight profile and an exceptionally large contact area. This allows the stylus to maintain superior contact with the groove walls, extracting more information from every record with remarkable accuracy.
Mounted on a rigid boron cantilever and finished using a specialised polishing process, the stylus delivers outstanding transparency, lightning-fast transient response, and exceptional detail retrieval. The result is a highly engaging listening experience with impressive clarity and natural musicality.
Advanced Magnet System
The MC 90X benefits from a magnet system derived from several of Ortofon's most respected cartridge designs, including the Kontrapunkt Series, MC Jubilee, and MC Windfeld.
At its core is a powerful yet compact neodymium magnet that enables a lighter and more efficient generator system. The reduced mass contributes to improved responsiveness and greater overall performance.
A key feature is Ortofon's proprietary Field Stabilising Element (FSE), a conductive cylinder positioned within the magnetic circuit. The FSE maintains a stable magnetic field regardless of armature movement, improving channel separation while significantly reducing dynamic distortion and intermodulation effects.
The result is a more open and expansive soundstage, enhanced instrument separation, greater dynamic contrast, and an increased sense of space, depth, and realism throughout the musical presentation.
Selective Laser Melting (SLM) Construction - Precision engineering for maximum performance
Building upon the innovative construction methods first introduced with the MC A90, the MC 90X features a stainless-steel body manufactured using Selective Laser Melting technology.
This advanced production process creates an exceptionally rigid and precisely formed structure, optimising the cartridge's mechanical integrity and resonance control. The increased rigidity contributes to improved dynamic performance and greater sonic accuracy across the frequency spectrum.
The carefully engineered mass of the stainless-steel body also improves compatibility with a wider variety of tonearms and turntable systems, ensuring optimal balance and performance in a broad range of high-end analogue setups.
Refined Wide Range Damping System - Enhanced control across the entire frequency spectrum
One of the defining features of the MC 90X is Ortofon's sophisticated Wide Range Damping (WRD) system. The WRD design utilises a platinum disc positioned between two specially formulated rubber absorbers with differing mechanical properties. This configuration delivers highly effective resonance control while maintaining excellent tracking ability across the full frequency range. By reducing unwanted vibrations and distortion, the WRD system enhances tonal accuracy, soundstage precision, and overall musical transparency.
To ensure the highest levels of consistency and performance, Ortofon develops and manufactures its proprietary rubber compounds in-house. The newly refined damping materials used in the MC 90X further improve stability, control, and long-term performance, helping the cartridge achieve an exceptionally natural and immersive sound.
Designed for the Ultimate Analogue Experience
Combining advanced manufacturing techniques, innovative damping technology, and one of the industry's most respected stylus profiles, the MC 90X sets a new benchmark for moving coil cartridge performance. Every element has been carefully engineered to deliver extraordinary detail, effortless dynamics, and a deeply engaging analogue listening experience.
